Hair transplant surgery overview
Hair Transplant Surgery is about taking healthy hair from an area of the scalp which is called the donor area and carefully transplant into areas where you are experiencing hair loss. The donor area is generally at the back of your head and around your ears where the hair growth is naturally resistant. The hair after transplantation keeps growing naturally and is permanently implanted. Human hair grows in grafts containing one to four hairs. There are two different methods to do hair transplants surgery which are FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction) and the FUT method (Follicular Unit Transplant).
What is FUT?
The strip method also called FUT is a surgical procedure. With FUT method, the hair at the back of the scalp is cut short for the surgery. Surgery of that section of the scalp is performed. The wound created by the surgery is then stitched up or stapled. Further, the removed portion of the scalp is divided and then put under a few microscopes for surgeons to use sharp blades to separate grafts into units of one to four hairs. While the technicians are separating the grafts, the physician then creates the hairline and recipient sites using a needle or a specific blade on the scalp. After the recipient sites are created, the surgeon then placed the grafts into the sites using forceps. The grafts with a single hair are placed in the front to get more natural hairline. The rest are placed behind for the density.
What is FUE?
Follicular Unit Extraction, is referred to as follicular unit transplantation in medical sciences world, and it is the modern technique of hair restoration. FUE is a more advanced method of hair transplants than the techniques like strip harvesting transplantation or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) which were previously available.
How it works
While performing an FUE transplant, the surgeon extracts hair follicles from the donor area, and from the back of the neck, using an authorized and specialized extraction instrument less than 1mm of diameter. Follicles are then transferred to the recipient area on your scalp and microscope is used for implantation. This surgical process is a very normal surgical procedure so you will be fully conscious the whole time as it is a painless procedure and it only a local anesthetic is required. Recovery time is short as compared to other methods and the risk of complications is low as well.
After the procedure surgeon will provide you with clear instructions on the care post-surgery, as well about the medication and topical treatments to give you the best result possible from the surgery.
